From Hidden Scripts to AI Filmmaking: My Journey as a Nigerian Writer and Filmmaker

Hi, beautiful people!

I hope you’re having a lovely weekend, wherever in the world you’re reading this from.

It’s been a long while since I last published a post on this blog. But no, I haven’t abandoned blogging or writing. I’ve simply been channelling much of my time, creativity, and expertise into my etiquette coaching business.

However, there is another part of me that has never stopped creating: the writer, storyteller, and filmmaker.

And today, I’m excited to share a little of that journey with you.

From Scripts Hidden Away to Stories Finally Coming Alive

As an author, writer, and filmmaker based in Lagos, Nigeria, pursuing a creative career with limited resources and few industry connections has not always been easy. In many ways, it has been a battle of persistence, patience, and determination.

Since 1999, I have written scripts, developed stories, and created novels that remained tucked away in boxes, drawers, and digital storage. Stories I believed in. Characters whose lives I wanted to bring to the screen. Worlds I wanted people to experience.

For years, many of those stories waited for the right opportunities, the right connections, and the right doors to open.

But things are changing.

With determination, consistency, and the emergence of AI-powered creative tools, I have found new ways to begin bringing my original stories to life.

I no longer have to wait for an industry executive to discover my talent before I can give my characters a voice. Neither do I have to depend entirely on traditional gatekeepers or paid script-listing platforms before exploring ways to share my work with an audience.

I can begin creating, experimenting, producing, and publishing independently.

And that possibility is exciting!

Why I’m Embracing AI Filmmaking

I am a film school graduate with a background in screenwriting and filmmaking, alongside more than eighteen years of experience in the creative field.

My journey has taught me that creativity requires more than inspiration. It demands discipline, storytelling ability, technical knowledge, continuous learning, and the courage to keep evolving.

As artificial intelligence and digital technology continue to transform filmmaking, I have been exploring how these tools can support the creative process, from developing stories and visualising characters to producing scenes and bringing original ideas to the screen.

For me, AI is not a replacement for storytelling experience, creative judgement, or the craft I have spent years developing. It is another set of tools that can help me explore possibilities, work within my available resources, and take greater control of how my stories reach the world.

I am particularly excited about the opportunities this creates for independent storytellers who may have the talent and the ideas but lack access to substantial production budgets or influential industry networks.

Sometimes, the story is ready long before the resources arrive. Technology is opening up new ways to bridge that gap.

Bringing My Filmmaking Experience into the Digital Space

As I continue this journey, I want to make more of my experience, knowledge, and creative process accessible to others who are interested in storytelling and filmmaking.

That is why I am developing and offering practical learning opportunities for aspiring creators.

I currently have a Mini Drama Class, designed around the process of developing and creating short-form dramatic stories. It is a distinct learning offer with its own scope, focus, and investment.

I also have a more comprehensive AI filmmaking training programme, built on my background, filmmaking knowledge, screenwriting experience, and continued exploration of AI-powered production tools.

These are two separate learning experiences, designed for different levels of engagement and learning needs.

My goal is not simply to show people which tools to use. I want to help creators understand the storytelling and filmmaking principles behind the tools so they can make more intentional, engaging, and original work.

Come and Watch My Latest Creative Work

I have also started a page where I will be sharing my film projects and original stories.

This is a new chapter for me, and I would love for you to be part of it.

Please visit the page, watch my movie, and, if the story resonates with you, kindly like, leave a comment, and follow the page. Your support, encouragement, and thoughtful feedback would mean a great deal to me as I build this creative space.

I will share the link below:

If you enjoy original stories, short dramas, filmmaking, and the exciting possibilities of AI-powered storytelling, I invite you to join me on this journey.

There are stories I have carried for years, and I am finally creating new ways to tell them.

Thank you for being here, for reading, and for supporting my work. It feels good to be writing on this blog again, and I look forward to sharing more of my creative journey with you.

Until next time, I remain yours truthfully,

Damilola

Love & light.
